Microsoft now offers many of the programs in the desktop-based Microsoft Office online and for free. These online programs include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote, as well as an address book/contacts list and calendar, all integrated with OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive). These online programs run in a browser. While not as full-featured as the desktop versions, their attractiveness lies in the fact that they have most, if not all, of the capabilities our students need, are always up to date, are fully compatible with the desktop version and are completely free.
We teach Outlook.com (email) with the address book and calendar, Word Online with OneDrive and Excel Online with OneDrive. Also, a “Save” function is not necessary as the documents are continually updated as you type.
If a student needs the more advanced capabilities that are in the desktop versions, these courses make excellent introductory courses.
